‘Asfar’ is a display typeface inspired by the old Iraqi magazine with the same name.
Created with a square Kufic base, the characteristics of the letterforms echo design elements from the original logo. Birds as dots, contrast between the weight and base thickness, curves and rigid lines, filled closed counters, and overlayed accents. However it would not work as a font as is. When creating a font, it is crucial to make sure that each individual letter works cohesively with any pairing possibility. As a solution, a bird’s nest is used as a connection point between letters, creating smoother transitions, and a sweet connotation of birds.
